The BKc, Music Inspiration: The Stuyvesants: Darien Victor Birks is a friend of The BKc and has contributed to our music efforts in the past. We are big fans of his blog with his approach on music and design. We recently connected with him as we heard some buzz about his new music and design project. Let us know your thoughts. Vote: Should this be added to our rotation & why?

The Stuyvesants! A project created, developed, and executed by Darien Victor Birks (Flwrpt), and Allan Cole (Algorythm). They brought their talents together to produce 25 instrumentals, t-shirts, logos and graphics which capture the sound and visuals of the 60′s and 70′s, an era that inspires so much of the music and design that we’ve grown to love. They’ve done this under the moniker “The Stuyvesants”, paying homage to their current place of residence, which is the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York.

Note: If you or someone you know has art, style, music, creative education, history, photography or anything in the BKc discipline that fits our Style + Character vision, we’d love to hear from you or them. Send us photographs, music, art or inspiration email: Please be sure to send High Resolution images and your best work.

  1. Lovin the music addition… you might like Madlib “Bluenotes sessions” or this new free mixtape Hannibal Kings “Villains Gones Bad II”

  2. So glad you got wind of this project. The album art and T-shirts are amazing. The best part of the music is that it’s completely free! Kinda crazy how they produced all of this strictly off the love of it.

It’s in my rotation and should be in yours too.

  3. Sending love & respect to my brothas

  4. Thanks for all the new music recommendations

  5. Glad this project is getting some wings. I really enjoyed the videos detailing the history of the different Brooklyn neighborhoods:

    Fort Greene
    Crown Heights
    Prospect Heights
    Clinton Hill

These projects and my recent trip to New York have given me a new respect and love for your bountiful city.

  6. Love this project. It definitely reminds me of the old block back in BK. Both of those brothers are very talented. Good post and stellar work as usual BKc.
