  1. i know this comment has nothing to do with this post but…..

what is up with the brooklyn circus, i visit the blog daily hoping to see a new spring collection, some type of product sneak-peak, something just something like the bkc of 2006-2008. But no, you guys just keep disappointing me over and over with all this dress up type of clothing your producing. how about some graphic tees and hoodies and more urban wear rather than all this “sophisticated more mature” type

Im sorry to say but im losing interest in the brand and i hope this doesnt upset the bkc family but this is just how i feel about the brand as of now

  2. Like Bob Dylan said…the times are-a changing jay

  3. @jay. you may be loosing interest in the brand, just because they aint playing your music, and you can’t dance to the tune they’re playing. that don’t mean nobody else is dancing. BKc keep doing what you doing, trust me when i say there are others out there who you INSPIRE. peace.

  4. @ jay, i think this new style is more of an acquired taste. i have just recently started dropping by the bkc site and i rather like what they are doing. i don’t think i would fuss much about what their product if they were to suddenly drop this aesthetic. it works.

  5. @morrison I discovered BKC back in 2006 and have following it since. What made me draw interest toward the brand then is what i dont see in the brands products anymore, i know the brand is evolving and all that but i dont know the brand doesnt have that same appeal as it once did. The products for one aren’t as attractive as they were and the prices are high if you ask me. I still love the brand and i don’t want anyone thinking I’m bad mouthing the brand and what its doing , I just wish the BKC would lean back toward their early days a bit

  6. fashion is about taste, and if you feel that this isnt your taste or doesnt tell your story then so be it. But as with everything in life things must change. Growth is change and change is good.

  7. I don’t know BKC from 2006 Jay, but from what I see it feels like a generation of youth culture giving a tip of the hat to timeless styles of dressing and more. Why would you want them to be purely “urban-wear”? There is no shortage of that being done. BKC is a welcome reflection of youth culture looking beyond it’s own peer group for inspiration, recognising both old and contemporary worlds for freshness.

I might be missing your point, but as far as I see there is still a choice as to whether you want to turn the volume up on the more sartorial dress sense or the urban dress sense from the brand.

  8. @ jay it’s 30 degrees in Brooklyn.. Check back in May/June for some “graphic tees”..

  9. BKC FOREVER

  10. I agree with Ruben and Early B….if you want “hoodies and graffic tees” go to Foot Locker…Fashion is always changing and you Sir Jay are geting left behind #forreal!

  11. @jay, i hear you. but to be honest, you can get a graphic tee just about anywhere. sure, it is pricey to take on a more collegiate look, but you are paying for taste, refinement, and maturity. as a woman, a brother with a clean look is much more dignified, than a brother with a graphic tee. fashion is about character, not image.

  12. *style is about character, not image.

  13. Just like everyone they grew up. How long will you wear graphic tees? At some point you become an adult and dress like one. I think The BKC does a great job or bringing together classic silhouettes with a young appeal. Also if you dont like it anymore dont buy it.

  14. I’m going to have to side with Jay on this one. I agree that change is good, but character is also not forgetting where you came from. I have no idea when a graphic tee became “Urban Wear” but you can pair a graphic tee with a cardigan or a shawl neck sweater. Or a crewneck with some nice shoes and still not look “urban.” Its not the clothing you wear that gives you that “look” it’s how you wear it. In my opinion it’s people who wear size M or L buying Xl and XXl or wear a size 34 or 36 wearing 38′s and 40′s dress your size and you can still have a (like the young lady put it) clean look.

  15. I’ll let the fellas battle it out about what was and what is. In the meantime, loving the gray wingtips!!

  16. I agree with Ruben, Early B and f.a.morrison….If you want \”hoodies and graffic tees\” go to Foot Locker….Fashion is always evolving and you Sir Jay are getting left behind #forreal!

  17. I understand that the brand is evolving and it will continue to evolve. I have no problem with that, i’m all for it. But i just miss the old BKC, and also updates on the blog are so hard to come by. I just wish the circus concentrates on both the sophisticated as well as the urban/street-wear that they started out with

  18. If you all still define urban as wearing ill-fitting clothing & Champion Super Hoods, then it seems many of you have completely missed one of the main points of The BKc.

  19. Thanks you Najee, that is exactly my point. For people to say that a “Graphic Tee” or “Hoddie” or a crewneck is “urban wear” and lets be real here your saying we are Ghetto for wearing that you completely missed what the BKC is all about. It’s about a blend of both worlds thats why I fell in love with the brand. You could get a cardigan, a hoddie, a graphic tee, a tweed shirt, sneakers, boat shoes, loafers, jeans and slacks/Pants all in the same place. I think that the point Jay is trying to make and I am starting to agree. Somewhere down the line theBKC lost that vision I just hope they find that balance again.

  20. @blogger b, i dont really agree with you. if what you are saying about bkc in its early years is true, then i would think as a supporter of the brand, you too would be a supporter of a more defined sense of the bkc mission. sure, at one point they did it all (as you’ve noted), but clearly that wasnt working for them, or wasnt settling right in the account books and at some point a long the way, they felt it necessary to strike out a new plan. you can’t expect a brand to do everything all the time. they shouldnt have to appeal to the taste of the athlete and the college student in order to keep up appearances. as an outsider, i think its mature for a business to settle with one idea of itself and push forward.

  21. I can respect where Jay is coming from (though I can’t remember too many seasons where graphic tees/crews and/or hoodies haven’t been represented). Just check the webstore now). But I can’t at all the honor the assertion that The BKc has lost its vision. The brand is just illustrating the vision progressively.

  22. i like how heavy this discussion just got, by the way.

  23. Thank you @Blogger B ,this is exactly what i was trying to say, but maybe i did not explain it well. and urban does not necessarily mean that you wear over-sized and baggy clothing. I just miss the BK C i started out with, and it got lost as it evolved,

Hopefully the BK C does bring balance between the two

  24. I agree with F.a Morrison , nice discussion. Everyone is really defending what the BKc means to them, which is different things to different people. It’s sort of like why people go to the Circus. Some for the animals, some for the energy, some for the clowns. I loved the Circus for the side show and freaky things. But I think the last post really summed it up as to what BKc stands for “Our beautiful shoe selection, fine tailoring and beautiful graphics can surely coexist”. Which means that everything everyone spoke about has validity, I am also glad that everyone kept it professional and respectful, you have to love what the BKc has created.

  25. Yes, graphic tees have their place in any smart mans outfit! I understand what Jay is saying. Perhaps tees featured more as a stepping stone in a larger vision, in terms of production value for a beginning business. The graphic tee market will always remain saturated. Having such particular expectations from a company with a direction that seems so open sure has caused plenty of discussion!

@Jay, There’s plenty of market space to mix and match in a way that suits your style, have you asked someone at the BKC if they will dedicate some time to a graphic tees like they used to? Who knows but them.

  26. @Fly Guy and @F.a
I agree it’s good to be able to get our opinions out without getting ignorance in retun. It’s true we dont all totally agree with each other, but we are still able to have a intelligent conversation and see it from all angles….. TheBKC still one of the best doing it.

  27. I visit this site all the time and never written anything but I have to enter this discussion. I have loved BKC from the very beginning, watched them progress and have enjoyed every moment. A person that really wants to progress in life realizes some change must occur. So if they were a strickly urban streetwear brand they would be following the crowd right now. Just check out some of the meaningless brands on karmaloop. The BKC is a premium product so expect to pay a premium price for it. When you do I’m sure it will be in your closet for years to come. It is truly timeless apparel.

  28. Uh…….can I get some turtle soup?
