The Brooklyn Circus, South Africa 2013 A journey of Style + Character:
We had the pleasure of spending some precious time in Johannesburg, South Africa last week and I can honestly say that the trip has made a permanent mark on us. The journey leading up to the trip, was a test of character & lack thereof in some people, but we’ll write about that later or maybe not.
Special thanks to Sam & Shaka of Art Comes First who are genuinely committed to our joint mission of creating this Global Village. Their determination and commitment to Art Comes First, The Brooklyn Circus, Street Etiquette, The Smarteez, the Sarties & moving the needle of menswear is not to be overlooked. It’s not a basic quest of well-dressed men being photographed all over the world, but bonding the world through Style & Character with menswear as the voice.
I See a different you: A trio collective, two of which we had the pleasure of spending time with in Johannesburg. They are originally from Soweto & are creatively mastering a portrayal of South Africa (Soweto to be exact) as they see it. The talented trio proudly represent: Soweto, Pimville & Benmore, Sandton. www.iseeadifferentyou.tumblr.com
The work of a young talented street photographer Trevor Stuurman, with a love of everyday people and how they represent their African way of life through their personal style. We also had the pleasure of chatting and seeing him pop up around Jozi, camera always in hand looking for the right shot or subject. www.stuurmanstylediary.tumblr.com
One of our favorite duos in South Africa, young well-dressed college students Wanda Lephoto & Kabelo Kungwane. Frequently shot by Trevor Stuurman, as they team up to push each other’s creativity and representation of South African men’s style.
