The Bearded Man Speaks Brimfield Antique Show 2012 Wrap-up: These buying trips are like the Super Bowl to us, so it takes a while to get off the high when we win. Winning is finding the stuff we were looking for and also finding the surprises and unknown. Special thanks to everyone who who made this trip possible. Darin Combs for assisting me on this picking journey, Colin The Circus trainer with his trained eye to capture the moment frame by frame to get you as close to the action as possible. Pf flyers for the amazingly comfortable sneakers for all the walking and GMC for the Hybrid Denali that was great on gas.

On our last day in Massachusetts we decided to drive up to Boston to say hello to Bobby,Kristen and the entire Bobby From Boston crew. It’s always good to catch up with them and spin around Boston. Can we publicly say that Boston is certainly fit for the next BKc store, can someone make that happen? At any rate, Stop by our stores to see the goodies and see what we dragged in from the road. The BKc SF + StyleForum 10YR Anniversary wrap-up: What an eventful week-end/Beginning we had in San Francisco, from our friend Bianca’s Fashion Showcase at the beautiful Clift Hotel on Thursday to the Art MurMur in Oakland on Friday night to Monday night front row at Drake’s concert with surprise guest Lil’ Wayne to backstage with The Weeknd and the XO crew at The legendary Fillmore Auditorium on Tuesday night. (Thank you to everyone that helped make us feel extra special, you know who you are!). But what really helped kick this all off in style (pun intended) is StyleForum’s 10 Year Anniversary event on Saturday. Fok and The StyleForum company put together a wonderful series of events at the W Hotel in San Francisco starting on Friday and although we couldn’t capture All the fun, we had our handy photogs right there with us snapping away. Bay Area Friday Night Lights…

Bay Area Friday Night Lights: Meanwhile back in San Francisco, as soon as Gabe the Great touched down in the Bay, the SF Team and him got right to work. Starting with prepping for a BKc presentation at Oakland’s Art MurMur – a monthly Art Collective Event in downtown Oakland. Before the SF team headed out to Oakland, they stopped by the W Hotel for StyleForums launch event where they were screening O’Mast- a film about Neapolitan Tailoring with director/producer Gianluca Migliarotti. A fantastic film by the way (more on that later). The BKc Style + Character & The 100 Year Plan . . .

Walking past this bar/grilled cheese spot on Broadway, looked so good through the window we couldn’t pass it up.

Brimfield Antique Show 2012 Day 3 . . .

Brimfield Antique Show 2012 Day 3 of what feels like a never ending dream of Antique and vintage heaven but of course another rainy morning- never stops any Brimfield vendor or buyer. Around this time of the year, the weather is normally either rainy or gloomy, either way a tad bit wet. We do welcome the rainy season more than we welcome the extreme heat during the July Brimfield show, if you have to miss any one of the three shows, make it the July show. We journeyed off into our normal routine of breakfast at Te Brown Cow and then off to catch whatever show opens that day.

We are pretty excited to report that we did really well today, with tomorrow being our last day in Springfield and possibly Brimfield. We have plans to head over to Boston to spend the day with Bobby, Kristen and the team over at Bobby From Boston. More rain tomorrow and of course more fields opening up and allot more shopping to be done, if it’s called for, nothing forced. If we don’t find anything tomorrow, we’ll be totally fine with what we gathered so far. Stay tuned for a full wrap up and more detailed updates, our brain is calling for rest. Brimfield Antique Show 2012 Day 2 . . .

Brimfield Antique Show 2012 Day 2: We woke up at 4:30am after what felt like too few hours of sleep, for Day 2 of our trip but officially Day 1 of The Brimfield Antique Show 2012. We made the drive from our hotel in Springfield to the town of Palmer for some good country breakfast at The Brown Cow, yep! The Brown Cow. After an amazing country breakfast with full country service we made our way over to Brimfield a quick 5 minutes away. The early morning show traffic was at its peak, with vendors, buyers and press creeping bumper to bumper on route 20. We made our way to our usual parking lot, went over the game plan, grabbed the bags and jumped into the 2012 buying season. We shopped the entire day and certainly secured some interesting goodies. As Bobby “Bobby from Boston” advised us, “you will find loots of things you like, but you can’t have it all. Stay focused on what you represent and what communicates your message”. Man! if that’s not wisdom, nothing is. That is so true here at this show, because their is so much to see (6000 vendors), so much to buy and lots of temptation to buy everything. The day started slow, with Ouigi & Darin browsing and taking lots of notes, but when they picked up their stride, they did some serious buying. Brimfield Antique Show 2012 Day 1 . . .

Brimfield Antique Show 2012 Day: The Sturbridge Textile Show was nothing to write home about. The clothing offering was ok and the prices not ok. Many of the vendors had their clothing price meter on full blast, hoping to get top dollar for everything they unloaded. We walked through the show with hopes of shopping, but most of the time was spent browsing and chatting with some of the regulars. After a few unsuccessful hours at the textile show, we headed off to route 20 to catch some of the early Brimfield vendors, we were set up and ready to wheel and deal. Special thanks to PF Flyers for the comfortable sneakers, that really made a major difference. Comfortable shoes are a must on these shopping trips. Brimfield Antique Shopping . . .

Brimfield Antique Shopping : The Annual Brimfield Show is quickly approaching and for many it marks the unofficial start of the flea market season. If you’ve had the pleasure of visiting any one of our shops, you’ve seen the furniture and props that are very much a part of the lifestyle we live and design for. We are often asked if the furniture is for sale and where we find it. The Brimfield Antique Show with over 6,000 dealers and 130,000 visitors is a good starting point and there everything is for sale. The Bearded Man has selected a hand full of trusted buyers/pickers for the 2012 opening season pilgrimage. We sat down with them for some much needed insight on this annual journey into what can at first sight seem like an intimidating and overwhelming endless abyss of old stuff-junk to some.

Brimfield 2012 is only a day away, what’s the most important thing as you prepare for it? The most important thing is to pray for good weather and pray that all the vendors arrive safely and are bringing lots of special finds.

What drives you to make the trip annually, sometimes two or three times a season? The unknown is what drives us every season, feeling like a kid preparing for a school trip. We travel with an open mind, lots of optimism and look forward to having allot of fun and learning even more. We also always look forward to talking shop with some of our favorite vendors and buyers, we learn so much from all the small talks.

What are you guys in the market for? ha! Can’t get too specific about what we are in the market for, because part of the fun for us is the adventure and the unknown. But, we are typically always in the market for the same things, small goods, more turn of the century to mid century American sports related items. Or something odd and different that you cannot walk away from. Items that become the focus of why you traveled four hours and spent 10 hours on your feet for 5 days searching.

Ouigi! Take us back to your very first memory of Brimfield? The first show was a few years back. The show has been around for over 50 years and I was aware of it for a long time, but my first trip was less than 6 years ago. I heard the show got really expensive over the years and that things have changed allot according to the veterans, but I’ve also heard that allot hasn’t changed. The first time we drove into the town and saw all the vendors , it was like walking into Coney Island or Disney World as a kid. Do you remember that feeling? It’s exactly that! Every visit comes really close to that feeling, because the product offering changes every season, for the most part.

Style Forum + BKc SF + W Hotel: What better way to spend a weekend in San Francisco, then with a group of well dressed people at a beautiful venue- The W Hotel to be exact. The best part is that “You’re Invited.” Please join us this Saturday May 5th (yep! Cinco de Mayo), from 12noon-8pm at the W Hotel in San Francisco, where we will be presenting a curated “Varsity Shop” in true BKc fashion. We’ll be joined by retail friends & family from across the country, including Epaulet, Leather Soul, Taylor Stitch, and Yuketen to name a few. If that’s not reason enough to come out and mingle, SF’s very own Gabe The Great, is on a flight to SF as we speak. Treat him well and hug him whenever possible, he says he loves NYc, but talks about how much he misses his SF fan base. Any question or comments can be posted in our comment section. BKc Good Times . . .

Bkc Good Times: As the weather gets better the boys have made it a point to go out and enjoy the town a bit more. With all the invites we receive and the work load we have, it’s important that we carefully pick the events we attend. BKc friend, family and Mr.Tailored himself, Lyshaan Hall invited us to his birthday event at the Eredi Pisano store on Madison last week. The Bearded Man and Gabe The Great joined the festivities and represented The Brooklyn Circus. This Spring and Summer we have plans to get out a bit more and enjoy the flowers and of course we’ll share as much of the footage with you as possible. And yep! the toys will come out, classic cars, Harleys & Solex bikes. The BKc Style + Character & The 100 Year Plan . . .

Casting Call . . .

BKc + John Midgley Book Project Casting Call: We are excited to announce that we have some amazing and well respected publishers very interested in the book project that we’ve added all of our love into for the past two years. With that said, we have to light a fire under our 5 pockets and bring the project as close to complete as possible. After countless meetings with our lovely team of book agents at William Morris it is clear that we need to step on it. Our creative team (John, Scott & Ouigi) felt the book needed a wider range of stylish individuals. The previous shoots were filled with middle aged faces and we are very grateful but what about the young elephants and the fathers who shoulders we stand on? Yep! That’s it.

The BKc, NYc casting call, for The BKc + John Midgley Book Project: If you’ve ever been on the set of a BKc photo shoot you know the kind of fun we have. We’d like to continue to “Spread the BKc love” by casting our readers, supporters and BKc family first.
