Julio Galvez is a music lover, world traveler, community organizer, and entrepreneur. Known by his stage name, The Whooligan, has over 15 years of performance experience as a globally-recognized artist. From 2013-2018, Julio served as the Director of Worldwide Bookings and Partnerships for Los Angeles based music collective, Soulection. Now, The Whooligan is focusing his time outside of his demanding show schedule to build on his newly formed humanitarian organization, Room Service International.

What’s the Purpose of RSI

RSI aims to give back to underserved regions all over the world by activating community service projects that bring change, all through the power of music.

How’d you start your music career?

I was at SF State. In my free time, I started producing and touring with different bands and groups. I eventually quit Amoeba and dropped out of college to focus on my music career. I never looked back because I landed two major, life-altering gigs with Microsoft and MTV that helped launch my brand and career. Shortly after that, I was introduced to Soulection via URB Magazine.

Can you talk a little bit about your role at Soulection, and how you migrated to RSI?

I was Director of Worldwide Bookings & Partnerships, which helped me understand how to launch a brand from the ground up, build many artists’ careers, and expand my global network, but I knew I always wanted to do more. On the first ever Soulection India tour, I had a realization that I could use my craft for change and progression – I knew my purpose was bigger than music solely. This thought planted the seed for Room Service International (RSI), and I wanted from then on out to use the power of music for philanthropy.

I left Soulection in 2018 to give my full focus to RSI. Since its inception, I have worked completely and irrevocably towards building this community-action organization. Every activation gives back to the communities we serve.

Since my humble start, I’m grateful that every opportunity that I have had has led me to play in incredible venues all over the world, as well as introduced me to GOATs and OGs in the industry. Even moreso, I am grateful that I have the opportunity to use my craft towards doing good. We all have the power to give back to our communities – we all have the power to live a life of service.

Collaborations & Partnerships

An ability to identify new music and creative culture first has led him to collaborations with brands including MTV, VICE, Red Bull, Soundcloud, Def Jam Records, NIKE, PUMA, K-Swiss, The Brooklyn Circus & Daily Paper. As a multifaceted and genre-bending artist, he’s also shared the stage with the likes of the late Mac Miller, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Kenny Dope, Just Blaze, DJ A-Trak, Mark Farina, Soul Clap, Tokimonsta, The Internet, Little Dragon, De La Soul, and Kaytranada.

His live DJ performances permeate an eclectic stylistic mix of internationally influenced progressive soul, funky house, disco, and feel good hip hop that will mirror the energy of the crowd, his love for people, and his intimate connection with the world and travel. Whether blending two records in a unique fashion, or working closely to cultivate next level talent, the common thread is his ability to see beauty in all. Style is informed by a moment in time, and context is captured by presentation.

The Brooklyn Circus/BKc is a menswear brand that finds inspiration in the pages of history books. Everything we make has a story, from the construction of our varsity jackets to the looms where our denim is woven, and we take these elements into consideration when we cultivate our brand. We are here to tell the story of style throughout American history and to emphasize the power of presentation. We want to change the way Americans dress, one iconic silhouette at a time through the 100-Year Plan. Welcome to the circus.
